BAYSM was founded in 2013 by Ettore Lanzarone and Francesca Ieva in Milan, Italy, which is also where the first meeting of its kind (BAYSM 2013) took place. Only one year later, BAYSM 2014 followed in Vienna, Austria, and Raffaele Argiento, Angela Bitto, Gregor Kastner, Kristina Lurz, and Alexandra Posekany joined the BAYSM board. The next meeting, BAYSM 2016, took place in Florence, Italy, followed by BAYSM 2018 in Warwick, UK, where Daniele Durante and Sara Wade joined as organizers. During that time, BAYSM became the official conference of j-ISBA.

BAYSM 2022 happened in Montreal, Canada! A cool twist of the 2022 meeting was the "Updating your (prior) beliefs" panel. It was the first mentoring panel ever at BAYSM, and it tackled the real struggles of junior academics. Alejandra Avalos hosted it, and the panelists were Amy Herring, Sylvia Frühwirth-Schnatter, and Adrian Raftery. They shared their experiences and advice, giving us junior folks some great insights into the academic journey. You can catch the recording of the panel discussion at: https://youtu.be/hMtSUG0Ro74.

BAYSM'21

BAYSM 2021 was a special event – it was the first time ever that the entire meeting happened online, due to the COVID pandemic. But you know what? It turned out to be pretty cool! We got to see just how awesome it can be to have conferences "without borders."
